1998 Land Cruiser 105 GX 4.2 Diesel

André Burger’s 1998 Land Cruiser 105 GX 4.2 Diesel

On the odometer?
420 000km

How many owners?
I am the second owner. I bought her with just over 200 000 km on the clock.

What did it cost?

R220 000

Why a Toyota?

What else is available?

Where have you been in it?
Too many places to mention – we go away regularly for a weekend to ensure the Cruiser doesn’t suffer from withdrawal symptoms while away from the bundu or sea.

Your dream destination?
I would love to visit Angola.

Modifications?
A Safari snorkel, Old Man Emu suspension and BF Goodrich KM2 mud tyres – all three are excellent.

Repairs?
A new alternator. The old one conked in after an outing in the Baviaans.

What do you like?
Her driving comfort and packing space, the sound of the KM2’s on the long haul, the diesel engine, and, thanks to all the diff locks, there are few places she can’t go. One can sit back and just soldier on.

And what not?
I definitely won’t win the Total Economy Run with the Cruiser.

If you could change something?
Nothing

What do you pack for a long trip?
My wife and kids

Best memory?
I have good memories of all the destinations, but the Eastern Cape, Baviaans, Kouga and Tsitsikamma stand out.

Would you drive through Africa in it?
Anytime

If it were famous?
Yul Brynner – he might not be the most attractive, but he’s tough and just keeps going.

With R10 000...

I would fit a decent set of seat covers.

Comments

This truck has a unique stance when the shock and suspension system if replaced. The engine will surely fire up and its Toyota Truck Windshield Visors will surely hold firmly on all sorts of terrains.
