Route distance:
49 km | 9 hours-2 days
Surrounds:
For the adrenaline rush of the white-knuckled steep descent. The trail starts in the picturesque town of Wupperthal. It boasts spectacular scenery along the way, as well as interesting rock formations and unique Bushmen paintings. Booking is essential as trail conditions are heavily affected by the weather.
The trail:
The terrain is primarily rock and sand. The Tra-Tra Trail takes you up the mountain and along some rocky and fairly steep slopes. It's recommended you spend the night at a designated campsite and head back down the following day along the scenic but steep downhill route to Wupperthal. This section should only be attempted in dry weather. Less experienced drivers should rather take the same route they came up.
Accommodation:
There is a guesthouse in Wupperthal.
Camping:
Camping facilities are available on the Tra-Tra Trail, with hot showers and flush toilets, but no electricity.
What else?
Visit poet C Louis Leipoldt’s grave and the shoe factory in Wupperthal. Wonderful flowers in season (August and September).
