Come along | Experience the heart of the Kalahari

Kalahari tour

Join Drive Out Tours (offered by Bhejane 4x4 Adventures) on an unforgettable tour through some of Southern Africa’s largest conservation areas – Mabenyane a Kalahari (Jewel of the Kalahari), Mabuasehube and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

This is what you can expect

Day 1: We meet at the campsite of Cornwall Lodge near Werda, 40km from the Bray border post in Botswana. By the time you arrive, your tents would have been pitched and you can cool off in a swimming pool at the lodge. Our bush chef will be preparing the first of the culinary delights you will enjoy on this safari.

Day 2-4: The next three days we will be travelling through one of the wildest and most remote places in Southern Africa, following only our human GPS (our trusty Bushman guide) on jeep tracks, cut lines and bush driving through the red Kalahari sand and savannah.

Our route will take us to many pans in the area with names such as Gankwe, Towe and Ghaa, where eland, springbok, gemsbok and the famous Kalahari lions quench their thirst. We will be in an area twice the size of the Kruger National Park and, except for the occasional tracks, there is nothing else made by man.

There is no light pollution, so the night skies will take your breath away. The only other living souls in the area are the occasional anti-poaching patrols… this is wild.
At night we make a bush camp where we arrive, but we will certainly eat and sleep well.

Day 5 and 6: After an early breakfast, we make our way to the village Hukuntsi in the northern part of the concession, where we will replenish much-needed water and fuel supplies. We then head south again for Mabuasehube on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where we spend two nights in the same campsite on the edge of Mabua Pan. Sunsets here are spectacular and the days are spent game viewing in an area known for sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, honey badger and brown hyena.

Day 7: While you are game viewing in the area, the crew will move the camp to Mtopi on the southern sand track route to Nossop.

Day 8: After a big breakfast we pack up camp and move a little closer to civilization to the Nossob campsite on the South African side of the park. Nossop has a shop, fuel, warm showers and swimming pool. There is enough time to do some game viewing up the Nossob river before sundowners and our last bush dinner together.

Day 9: After a lavish breakfast, we must say goodbye to our travel companions as we pack up and head for home. Luckily you will still see game as you have to drive to Twee Rivieren, where we have our passports stamped before leaving the park.
