What are the pros and cons of 4x4 double cabs or 4x4 SUV? I am shopping for a 4x4 double cab or 4x4 SUV. What do you suggest will be the best option as this will be my only transport? What brands will be the best. I am not planning to do a cross Africa trip but Mos, Namibia, Kgalagadi and areas like that will be my destinations.

The bigger differentiating
The bigger differentiating point between double cabs and SUVs are whether they are soft roaders or off roaders. Some Land Cruisers and the Land Rovers are also, striclty speaking, SUV's, but they are not quite the same as a Jimny or X3.
I would say, depending on the amount of off-roading you are going to be doing, you should not choose between double cab or SUV, but soft roader and off roader. As a general rule of thumb, most 4x4 double cabs are better at off roading, but some SUV's are just as capable and even better in some cases.
Which brand is the best is a whole other debate. Traditionally Land Rover and Toyota are better equipped for Africa, but the Kalahari was tamed with Ford F250's and Datsun 1200 bakkies. So any established brand is capable of conquering Africa, purely because if something goes wrong, you will more likely find someone who can help you in the great wild... But newer brands in the off road market can also do what you need if they don't break down - not saying that they will, but if they do, you are less likely to find someone that can help.
I hope that helps!
