Documents required
Visa: Yes
International driver’s licence: Yes
Inoculation certificate: Yellow fever vaccination is compulsory; typhoid, hepatitis A, tetanus and meningitis vaccinations are recommended.
Medical insurance: Recommended
Vehicle insurance: International insurance is required
Vehicle registration documents: Yes
Clearance certificates: A CPD is highly recommended. If you’re travelling in a private vehicle, make sure you have the necessary import and export permits.
At the border post
Cost: The visa costs vary from US$50-$150 (R350-R1050). Temporary import and export certificates and insurance cost about $100 (R700).
Equipment: None are required, but emergency triangles are recommended.
ZA sticker: Yes
What may I take in? 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco; 1 litre spirits and two bottles of wine; 570ml perfume
What else? Personal effects and presents can be brought back upon declaration at the departure point. Visitors can take in any amount of foreign currency and no declaration is required. Import and export of Tanzanian currency is prohibited.
