The trail:
Dassiefontein separates the brave from the rookies, with one rocky descent so steep it looks suicidal. In fact the editor keeps a photograph of this leap of faith at hand to remind him to get out there and have 4x4 fun. For the less adventurous there's the option of watching while other brave souls plunge to the base of the cliff, down a mercifully straight trajectory. One reader warned that there was a real danger of cutting tyres while negotiating the rugged terrain. The well-planned route starts in a sandy riverbed on a farm 62km north-east of Grunau on Keetmanshoop road, and includes koppies that become progressively bigger and more challenging as they grow into the towering Kamberg range.
Camping:
Camping with all meals provided. Showers, flushing toilets, freezers and a hall to get out of the elements, when need be.
