The trail:
Bamboeshoek is three hours from Bloemfontein and East London and four hours north of Port Elizabeth. A fair amount of 4x4 experience is necessary to tackle a number of steep ascents and descents, that owner Chris Bartlett says are tough enough to put your low-ratio box through its paces. The trail can be reasonably tricky in fair weather but darn scary after rain when some clay sections become skidpans.
